History, Art & Archives: US House of Representatives
History, Art & Archives (HAA) of the U.S. House of Representatives is the office responsible for preserving, interpreting, and sharing the institutional history and cultural heritage of the House. It brings together three integrated functions: the House Historian, which documents and interprets the legislative and institutional history of the House; the Fine Arts Office, which preserves and manages the House’s historic artworks, decorative objects, and collections displayed throughout the Capitol; and the House Collection and Archives, which safeguards official records, photographs, and archival materials related to members, committees, and House operations. The office also maintains an oral history program that records first-hand accounts from members and staff, preserving personal perspectives on the workings and culture of Congress. Working together, these divisions support research, public education, and the long-term stewardship of the House’s historical and artistic legacy.
