Clare Winterton

Clare Winterton was the Executive Director of the International Museum of Women from 2009 to its merger with Global Fund for Women in 2014. She steered the organization through the creation of many of its most innovative online exhibitions, tackling issues from the global economy to maternal health, technology, and feminist futures. The rich multi-media projects were anchored in diverse global art, activism, and story-telling and curated by talented “artivists” and change-makers. During her tenure, the organization launched digital exhibitions – including Economica, MAMA, IGNITE, and Muslima –reaching more than 2 million online visitors and initiated events and installations in 14 countries on five continents. In partnership with then Global Fund for Women CEO Musimbi Kanyoro, Clare designed the merger of IMOW and Global Fund for Women to create a powerful combined global force for action, grantmaking, and advocacy on global gender equality, becoming VP of Programs and then COO of the merged organization. Since then, Clare has worked as a Senior Advisor to the United Nations’ Generation Equality initiative and is currently the Chief Programs and Operating Officer of the Solutions Project, an organization leading movement-centered climate justice grant-making and narrative change.
