Virago Press Founded
Virago Press was founded in 1973 by Australian writer and publisher Carmen Callil, along with Marsha Rowe and Rosie Boycott (founders of Spare Rib magazine).Originally conceived to publish works by and about women, the press quickly established itself as a leading feminist publishing house dedicated to celebrating female authors and resurrecting out-of-print classics by overlooked women writers.
