Ntozake Shange, supersisters No. 72

This ephemera is from the original supersisters trading card set which aimed to empower women and girls by highlighting accomplished women in a wide variety of fields. The cards were created by sisters  Lois Rich and Barbara Egerman after Lois’ 8-year old daughter, Melissa, asked why there weren’t any women on baseball trading cards. This card features Ntozake Shange, an accomplished playwright and poet. Shange produced for colored girls who have considered suicide, an award-winning Broadway production.
